Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo is an unforgettable day out for all ages with over 1,000 rare and endangered animals. Formerly the Scottish National Zoological Park, the Zoo is set in 82-acres within the suburbs of Edinburgh. The Zoo receives over 600,000 visitors a year, which makes it Scotland’s second most popular paid-for tourist attraction, after Edinburgh Castle. As well as catering to tourists and locals, they are involved in many scientific pursuits, such as captive breeding of endangered animals, researching into animal behaviour, and active participation in various conservation programs around the world.

Koala Territory  – Meet the UKs only Koalas! Home to 3 Koalas with their latest addition, Tanami, only arriving this August. Make your way through the eucalyptus garden, before arriving at the Koala viewing areas. There will be lots of great photo opportunities so don’t forget your camera!

Giant Pandas – Visit Tian Tian and Yang Guang at Edinburgh Zoo, the only giant pandas in the UK! Since arriving at the Zoo the pandas have become a firm favourite amongst visitors so we definitely recommend booking in advance to save disappointment.

Penguins Rock – This is Europe’s largest outdoor penguin pool with great viewing areas which even allow you to see the penguins underwater! Edinburgh Zoo was the first zoo in the world to house and breed penguins. The first three Penguins, which were King Penguins, arrived in January 1913, the first successful hatching chick was in 1919 and the numbers have grown ever since now housing many types of different breeds. Budongo TrailEdinburgh Zoo‘s Budongo Trail houses 40 chimpanzees in the world’s most interactive enclosure. Watch the chimpanzees swing around their home as you learn all about the links between us and our closest relative!
